How To Back Up WordPress Using Backupify

Today I found a great solution for FULLY AUTOMATED WordPress back up.

Backupify is a great “free” service which can back up not only your WordPress database and files but amoung others your social media accounts such as Twitter & Facebook and your  media accounts such as Flickr & You Tube.

For a while now I have been hunting for just that kind of service and Backupify ticks all the boxes.

Set up is easy! Just enter your login credentials for each service you want to backup, and set your preferences. Then Backupify will take it from there. You will get regular emails confirming when your backups have completed.

Here is a short video of me signing up for an account and then doing my first back up of my database AND core files:

Steve, thanks so much for putting this video together. It’s obvious once you know how but I would have struggled to do all that in the right order.

And you explain things so well.

    Thanks Marion!

I’m hoping to put together more and more of these how to videos. The next one will be on how to restore the back up that Backupify so efficiently organised for us.

    Cheers x

    Hi Steve,
Excellent pace and very clear instructions thanks.
I got to the point of initialising the back up and nothing happened.

Your video showed the progress of the backup as everything slowly turned green, while mine stayed blue!

I waited at least minutes hoping to see a tinge of green but nothing.
Any ideas. (i.e does it work ok on a MAC?)

    Cheers

    Julie
p.s. I’m glad you’re doing this now, I’ve been waiting or you for years!

      Hi Julie

Thanks for your comments. Depending on how much data is on your blog it could take a couple of hours for it to all back up initially. I edited my video so it looks like its backing up fast when really it took a good hour. If you have a lot of comments on your blog you might want to disable back up of that (you can do that on the same page as the “back up now”

Leave for as long as possible, you should see 1%… 2% after about 10/15 mins again depending on your data amount.

There shouldn’t be any Mac issues as far as I am aware, I will look into this to see if anyone else is having issues…

      Many thanks
      Steve

OOH I forgot to mention… Look out for the “Restore” follow up video which I hope to complete at some point this week.

          Hi Steve,

I have looked on your blog and could not find the “Restore” video. Have you completed it yet? When will you be posting it? I like to stay ahead of the game and have instructions on how to restore from Backupify if I have to. There are solutions available for Backup/restore but are too pricey.

          Thanks,
          Dianne

            Hi Dianne

I have uploaded the restore video now, sorry for the delay :-)

            Cheers
            Steve
